“How precious are your thoughts about me, O God.

They cannot be numbered!

I cant even count them,

they outnumber the grains of sand!” Psalms 139:17

a beach

a tide

a swallowing sky

ocean arms overlapping

as white stallions pull them over

and over

and over

until they are stretched past their due

the edge of their fingers brushing my shoes

beneath me

the sand drunken sea

all moist and muddy with its fill

a border between what is dry

and what the ocean loves to spill

i take more steps

footsteps now a gentle fading

into the warm soul of the beach

the sand grains rearranging

singular particles, packed together in my hand

Shaking them slowly i can see

 all the many thoughts

of what the creator thinks of me

and if ever one should say

I am below the eyes around

i’ve got a whole heart of nothing and silence for a sound

i will bring them to the beach

to the tide

to the place of the swallowing sky

and i will show them the sand

look on down, can’t you see

these grains don’t outnumber the many thoughts the creator thinks of me

to stride and not to strive on top of what i never have to earn

a promise the grains of sand sing among the earth

but if i ever i should forget

if there ever is a time

i will go back to the beach

back to the tide

back to the place of the swallowing sky

back to the grains

that sing out my name

all many tender thoughts

about me

footsteps in my walk

now turn to a run

my heels digging into the earth

the wind, every direction in search

the sea now a blur of cool color

and as i go

as i run

i can hear the sound

of billions of sand grains in encircling round

each individually shouting out

“I am the thought about your heart!”

“I am the one about your eyes!”

“I am all of the questions you have!”

“I am the worries of your mind!”

so look on down

to the earth beneath your shoes

the sand grains don’t outnumber the many thoughts

the creator thinks of you
